Wind Ensemble

Wind Ensemble Audition Requirements

  • An etude or solo work of the student’s choice, an excerpt about 1-2 minutes in length - grade 2-3 recommended. Suggested Solos 

  • Suggested Percussion Etude and Rudiments

  • Attach a PDF of the solo piece to the email when you share the video

  • Choose 2 scales from the list below

  • Upload the video to YouTube and share the unlisted link with execdir@cysomusic.org, SUBJECT LINE: 2020-2021 Audition, Due by June 30th

Scale Requirements

All others: Major 1 octave: concert F, Bb Eb,  Chromatic start on any pitch

Mallet instruments: Major 1 octave: concert F, Bb, Eb Ab

Percussion Section Requirements

Snare Drum

  • Students should prepare an etude or solo on the snare drum

  • FF and pp drum rolls, as well as a single concert roll which begins pp, crescendos to FF and diminuendos to pp over 10 seconds

  • Students should demonstrate 2 out of the 4 rudiments: a paradiddle, double paradiddle, flam or drag. 

All Students

  • Auditions will be on snare drum and bell set or mallet instrument if available.
